Racing again...

Saturday I will be running my second 5K road race- it was originally scheduled for December 15, but the ice storm caused it to be postponed.

I thought I might take a moment to lay out my excuses for running poorly beforehand:

  1. Work, weather, and an injury have kept me from running for most of the month (though I have been playing soccer at least twice a week for the last three weeks.
  2. I have a cold/sore throat.
  3. It's going to be cold.
  4. My lower back has been giving me problems for about a week.
  5. My left hamstring and quad have been injured for the last month.
My guess is that #5 will be the biggest problem.

I'm just kind of hoping to finish.

We'll see.

You know...

...too often I complain that nobody reads this blog. And now, there are two things I'd like to write about at length and I'm suddenly worried about who might read my blog! One of the topics is relatively harmless, but the other... I don't think I could make it vague enough not to hurt anyone's feelings.

We'll see.

At the moment, I'll just continue to enjoy knowing that there will be a new president in 16 hours.

One does not "obtain" a goal, one "achieves" a goal.

A goal is an object. If one "obtains" a goal, I hope one is then planning on kicking a soccer ball into it or shooting a hockey puck into it.

Today in musical snobbery

The fact that Matthew Sweet did not become a pop/rock star of epic proportions could not be a greater indictment of the average American's lack of music taste and lazy listening habits.

Don't believe me?

Listen to "Girlfriend" and "100% Fun," they are PHENOMENALLY BETTER than any other albums released during the 1990s and as good as any album released since rock and roll began in the mid-1950s.

I have spoken.

Credit where credit is due

I hate to say it, but running on a regular basis made my return to indoor soccer tonight a pleasant surprise.

That said, I will never, EVER choose to run when I have the option of playing soccer of any kind.

Oh, and by the way, 40 may be fast approaching, but I still got it!

Attention People of Earth

I thought I hated people who talked loudly on cellphones in public or while driving, and I do- but apparently not as much as the wandering zombies that are texters.

Today, one of these evolutionary laggards walked right into a crosswalk as I approached it in my car. She never looked to see if any car was coming in either direction, she never lifted her head from her phone, she just took a left off the sidewalk and into the street.

Next time, I'm not slowing down.
